Prof. Twaha Kigongo Kaawaase is an accountant by profession, has lectured, regulated and practiced accounting, auditing and finance for over 30 years. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting Major) upper second degree of Makerere University, Kampala; a Post-Graduate Diploma in Development Finance (PGDip. Dev. Fin) and a Master of Social Science in Accounting and Development Finance (MSocSc-Accounting and Development Finance) both of the University of Birmingham (UK). He is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA) of the United Kingdom and also a full member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPA-U). He is a Certified Corporate Governance Trainer (Commonwealth Association For Corporate Governance). He holds a PhD in Auditing of the University of Dar es Salaam (Tanzania).

In addition to practicing accounting, he is a professor of auditing and accounting at Makerere University Business School. He has held senior positions in the Insurance Industry in Uganda and at the Uganda Development Bank. He has served on a number of key Boards of Directors in Uganda as chairman, chair of Audit and Risk Committees (ARC) and as a member inclusive of being a member of the board of directors of CBS Radio; chairing the Board of directors of Marsh Uganda Limited; independent trustee of the DFCU Bank Staff Provident Fund board of Trustees; Member and chair of ARC and later chair of the Board of directors of the Uganda Capital Markets Authority; Member and chairman ARC of the National Bank of Commerce; Member, chair ARC and later Chairman of the board of directors of the Uganda Health Marketing Group; Member, chair ARC and later Chairman of the board of directors of the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority; Member of the Board of director of the National Planning Authority; Member and chair of ARC of the Uganda Reinsurance Company; Member and chair of the Board of Trustees of the Insurance Training College (Formerly the Insurance Institute of Uganda); member and chair of board of Governors of Kibuli Sen. Sec School and Bulo Parents School and many others in the private sector.

In addition to public practice, he has served the accounting profession on the local scene as a member of the ACCA Uganda network branch. He is an active member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda and currently a member of the Uganda Public Accountants Examination Board. On the international accounting profession scene, Prof. Kaawaase joined the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) Small and Medium Practices Committee in 2014 as a Technical Advisor (advising a member from Brazil) and later became a full member of the IFAC/SMP Committee from January 2016 to date.

As service to the community, Prof. Kaawaase has served Buganda Kingdom (one of the indigenous Kingdoms in Uganda) since 1996 starting this call as a member of Buganda Cultural and Development Foundation; Member of the great Lukiiko (Parliament) of Buganda Kingdom; Minister of State for Finance; Minister of Education; 2nd Deputy Katikkiro (Premier) and currently he serves as the 1st Deputy Katikkiro (Premier) also in charge of the docket for ICT, innovations and administration.
